The Sun's own festival: through the night pilgrims gather at the Chandrabhaga beach, three kilometres east of the Temple, bathe in the sea before first light as the Brahma Purana prescribes, and greet Lord Surya rising from the Bay of Bengal before coming to the chariot Temple for darshan.
