In the small hours of 18 January of every even year, the worship of the Lord passes to the next of the eight Ashta Mathas: a ritual dip at Dandatirtha, a torchlit procession from Jodukatte along Car Street, and the handover of the Akshaya Patra and shrine keys at the Sarvajna Peetha.
