The Persian New Year, historically marked at the shrine by Jahenda Bala, the raising of a sacred banner, drawing crowds reported as high as two hundred thousand. Since the Taliban's return to power in 2021, public Nowruz observance has been banned nationwide and press reports describe the ceremony as absent from the shrine every year since 2022. The equinox falls on 21 March 2027; no observance should be assumed.
