Summit of Trikut mountain Maihar, Madhya Pradesh Maa Saraswati come to earth Alha's Brahma Muhurta worship Her Necklace Fell here

The forest thins as you climb, and the plain of Maihar opens below you like a held breath. At the top of Trikut mountain the Shrine waits against the sky, upon the ground where the Necklace Of Maa Sati is believed to have Fallen. And the old promise walks ahead of you: before the first pilgrim of the morning, a deathless warrior has already bowed here and gone.

Here Fell the Necklace Of Maa Sati when Vishnu divided Her Body into Fifty-One parts, and this ground became one of the Fifty-One Shakti Peethas.
Maa Sharda Is Revered as the incarnation of Goddess Saraswati. The warrior Alha, in his affection, called Her Sharda Mai, and from his word grew the beloved name Mata Sharda Mai.
Blessed By The Goddess with immortality after twelve years of penance, Alha is believed to climb To Her Temple every day in the Brahma Muhurta and offer the first worship of the morning.

The story the mountain keeps

The religious texts tell of Maa Sati, daughter of Daksha Prajapati, who wished to marry Lord Shiva and Did so though Her father refused his blessing. When Daksha held a great yagya and invited Brahma, Vishnu, Indra and the other gods but left Shiva out, Maa Sati asked him why, and he answered by abusing her lord; unable to bear it, She Gave Up Her Body in the fire of the yagya. Shiva opened his third eye in anger, and to save the universe Vishnu divided the Body Of The Goddess into Fifty-One parts, and wherever a part Fell, a Shakti Peetha arose.

At Maihar, it is believed, Her Necklace touched the earth. Deep within the forests, upon the top of the Trikut mountains, the warrior brothers Alha and Udal found the Shrine, the first devotees to reach The Goddess in that remote place. Alha then performed penance For Twelve years, and Maa Blessed him with immortality.

  • Tradition says the Shrine was discovered by Alha and Udal on the summit of the Trikut mountains, hidden in the middle of forests; that wild remoteness is part of its oldest memory.
