Bahula Temple
About
In the town of Ketugram, within Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal and administered under the Katwa Subdivision, stands a modest but deeply cherished shrine known both as Bahula Temple and, more formally, as Shri Bahula Shaktipeeth. It belongs to the network of 51 Shakti Pithas, the sacred sites scattered across the Indian subcontinent where the Divine Mother is held to be present in one of her many forms.
Here the goddess is venerated as Bahula, an embodiment of Devi Parvati, whose name gives the temple its identity for pilgrims travelling through rural Bengal. Like the other Shakti Pithas, the temple draws devotees who honor the goddess not as a distant figure but as a living presence rooted in this particular stretch of earth.
For Hindus of the region, and especially for Shakta worshippers who trace their devotion through the network of pithas, Bahula Temple offers a point of pilgrimage woven into the wider sacred geography of Bengal. Its setting in Ketugram places it among the many smaller, lesser-publicized shrines that nonetheless hold deep meaning for those who seek out the Divine Mother in her many manifestations across the land.
Significance
Bahula Temple's importance rests on its recognition as one of the 51 Shakti Pithas, the constellation of shrines through which the Divine Mother is worshipped across South Asia in the form of Devi Parvati. As the seat of Goddess Bahula, it holds a place within this broader devotional geography, linking the villages of Purba Bardhaman district to a pilgrimage tradition shared by Shakta devotees throughout Bengal and beyond.
