Wat Chedi Yot Thong

About

Wat Chedi Yot Thong is a quiet, historically resonant Buddhist temple set in Phitsanulok in central-northern Thailand. Though modest in scale today, it carries an important architectural legacy from the Sukhothai era, when its principal chedi was first raised.

The wat is best recognised for its lotus-bud-shaped chedi, a distinctive Sukhothai form whose tapering profile evokes a flower poised to open. This is the sole surviving chedi of its style remaining in Phitsanulok Province, lending the temple particular value to historians of early Thai Buddhist architecture.

The present grounds remain a working monastic environment. A complex of monks' dwellings stands facing a small lake, and a smaller, modern temple structure has been added nearby to serve the community's continuing devotional needs.
