About

Wat Phichaya Yatikaram Worawihan — often shortened in everyday speech to Wat Phichai Yat — rises along the waterside of Khlong Somdet Chao Phraya in the Khlong San District of Bangkok, near present-day Wongwian Lek. The temple is widely esteemed for the refinement of its layout and ornament, and it is counted among the most beautiful and architecturally outstanding sanctuaries on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya River.

The wat's location along an old klong of the city links it to the watery rhythms that once governed daily life in Thonburi — neighbourhoods where the canals were the principal thoroughfares and the temples opened their gates to passing boats. Today the precinct remains a working monastery, with its halls and chedi preserved within a quietly devotional setting.

The Thai Buddhist community of the surrounding district continues to gather here for merit-making, daily alms-rounds, and the major observances of the Theravada calendar. The temple's grounds offer a moment of stillness within one of the older quarters of Bangkok, a reminder that the sacred geography of the capital extends well beyond its more famous landmarks.
