Wat Phra Ram
About
Wat Phra Ram occupies a central position in the old city of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, encircled by the river and just east of Wat Phra Si Sanphet, with the former royal palace of Wang Luang lying to its northwest. The wat is among the oldest sanctuaries of the kingdom and shares the eastward orientation followed by Ayutthaya's principal temples — facing the rising sun.
The location places it at the heart of the spiritual and ceremonial geography of the former capital. As one of the historical monastic foundations of the city, the wat shaped, and was shaped by, generations of royal patronage and the daily devotions of Ayutthaya's people before the kingdom's fall.
Today, the precinct stands within the Ayutthaya Historical Park, its weathered prang and surrounding ruins woven into a wider sacred landscape recognised internationally for its cultural value. The temple remains a place where the rhythms of merit-making, offerings, and quiet remembrance still unfold among the silent stones.
